NewAfricanWoman Official Media Sponsor for AFWL 2013

Aligning visions to create unique and reputable platforms for African talent, Africa Fashion Week London 2013 and the award-winning bi-monthly magazineNewAfricanWoman have joined forces to make the third edition of Africa Fashion Week London scheduled for 1-3 August 2013 at Old Truman Brewery in Shoreditch a success.

“Our editorial formula is undoubtedly in its own league especially when it comes to supporting and highlighting African fashion design talent. No one does what we do. We have been keen and unapologetic supporters of Africa Fashion Week London from its very onset three years ago. And being asked to media sponsor this year’s event is so exciting because the AFWL ethos is very similar to ours. Its Africa’s time and we believe African fashion is no longer the much pigeonholed ‘source of inspiration’ but deserves right recognition and acceptance on its own merits by the international community and global brands, and we are proud that this is what the AFWL and its founder Ronke Ademuluyi are trying to achieve and we fully support that,” says theNewAfricanWoman editor reGina Jane Jere.

Meet Exhibitor Ayasu Tantamani

AyasuTantamani is a screen-printing artist and has recently produced a small collection of t-shirts for men and women based on artworks that she developed which were inspired by the words ' I am the future of Africa', born out of Barack Obama's speech to the Ghanian parliament in July 2009.

His words ' Africa's future is up to Africans' struck a chord for the designer personally as it made her realise that the changes that she wants to see happen in her own home country of Zimbabwe and on the continent as a whole, will be achieved to a greater extent through the actions of the man or woman on the street like herself, playing her small part. And in combination those small parts will gradually bring about a true 'African renanissance' - not dictated from above, but lived out through the millions of people - young and old, going about their day to day affairs in the bustling cities and rural outposts, harnessing their abilities and aspirations.
