Range Rover Goes Topless, Sustainably, at Geneva Motor Show

In 2010, Range Rover unveiled the Evoque in a splashy event at Kensington Palace co-hosted byVogue, whose interested was piqued because Victoria Beckham consulted on the car's design.
Today at the Geneva Motor Show, Range Rover unveiled the next generation Evoque: a topless or convertible concept car, with sustainability as top of mind as the premium luxury features. More details after the jump.
According to Range Rover,
The concept vehicle will explore the potential for the world's first premium convertible SUV. With an engaging blend of dynamic handling and refined engineering, the Range Rover Evoque is the most sustainable Range Rover luxury SUV ever. Its compact footprint and advanced technology deliver exciting performance together with reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Available as a luxury coupe or standard 5 door SUV, the Evoque offers several different models:
Range Rover Evoque Pure -- the purest expression of the LRX concept car.
Range Rover Evoque Prestige -- the ultimate in Range Rover luxury.
Range Rover Evoque Dynamic -- A sports-oriented take on the Evoque.

The New York Times points out,
(the) topless version of the two-door Range Rover Evoque is designed to show “what’s possible” for Land Rover, according to John Edwards, the brand’s director. Although the Convertible Concept shown here was described as an engineering and design study, Startech, a German aftermarket company, has already developed a convertible conversion kit for the production Evoque, which began production only late last summer. The kit is being shown here in a separate hall for accessories developers. “The Evoque lends itself beautifully to a convertible,” Gerry McGovern, Land Rover’s head of design, said. A decision to approve such a vehicle for full-scale production would hinge partly on public reaction to the concept at auto shows like this one, he added. The concept features a retractable soft-top roof and pop-up roll bars for protection in the event of a rollover.
